AI Policy & Editing for YouTube
- We do not use AI when editing our existing programs for YouTube.
- We do edit these older shows to improve the video quality for YouTube. That means:
- We use the professional standard algorithm, QTGMC, to deinterlace our video. Proper deinterlacing can restore quality lost during the original editing process (decades ago). This means our videos are at a frame rate of NTSC 59.94 FPS.
- We use industry standard editing features to bring out the best in each video. That includes color correction and minor sharpening of the picture.
- YouTube demands an actual 4:3 aspect ratio. Many of our videos were originally produced at a 3:2 aspect ratio. To satisfy YouTube we've increased the frame size to 960x720, which is true 4:3.
- When deinterlacing the video we increase the resolution to HD. We edit at this resolution and then render the finished edit to 960x720. This helps ensure no quality loss during editing.
- Note: Because we convert the video to the proper 4:3 aspect ratio and increase the frame size during deinterlacing, YouTube may mark the video as HD. We do not claim the video is HD, however these technical changes may make it appear as HD to YouTube's algorithm.
Would we ever use AI?
We do not use AI to edit or present our programs. But there are situations when using AI will be appropriate and will give you a better quality show. For instance, when directly transferring vintage film to digital (such as original 8mm film) using AI could be helpful in bringing you the best video possible. Older VHS tapes might also be candidates for some AI processing.
If we use AI in making or editing any video for YouTube, we will inform you with graphic text at the beginning of the video.
