Product Description
Union Pacific has taken over the Southern Pacific, but, in 1999, there is still plenty of SP flavor to this stronghold of the Southern Pacific. We'll look at West Colton Yard, PMT, Hunts Lane, old Colton and Colton Crossing.
We see various views of the yard and quite a bit of action, from power moves to helpers, doubles, arrivals, departures and runbys. We get trains coming off the ex-SP Sunset Route and the Palmdale Cutoff. Right after the merger, as this is, we see a lot of variety in motive power, from UP and SP to D&RGW, CNW, BNSF and Santa Fe.
Midwest Video Productions was most active in the mid-to-late 1990s when mergers were happening and flags were falling at a fast clip. This video was shot using professional equipment of the time, but is not up to the clarity of today's high-definition video. It is however an excellent snapshot of an important time in the nation's railroad history.
